How to Prepare for your DEXA, RMR, or VO2 Max

 

DEXA Scan

  1. Do NOT come in dehydrated

  2. You do NOT need to fast for a DXA scan

  3. Please wear comfortable workout clothes without any metal

  4. You will be asked to empty your pockets and remove any significant amounts of metal (watch, belt, glasses, jewelry, etc.)*

  5. Small buttons, underwire bras or zippers that cannot be removed from clothing are fine

  6. Pregnant women cannot perform this test!

  7. Weight limit for the DEXA machine is 330lbs

  8. The test itself takes 6-12 min. The entire appointment, including our technician reviewing the report with you, should last no longer than 30 min.

*Metal implants such as surgically replaced skeletal structures are acceptable HOWEVER removable devices such as Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) should not be exposed to X-rays and MRIs and therefore must be removed prior to your DEXA scan!

 

RMR Metabolic Test

  1. You must FAST for a minimum 9 of hours (only drink water)

  2. Limit your activity beforehand (no exercise)

  3. Refrain from taking any caffeine or stimulants the day of your test

  4. Workout, casual, or even business clothes are all acceptable, as you will just be relaxing in a chair  

  5. You will be wearing a face mask to perform this test

  6. The test itself takes 12-15 min. The entire appointment, including our technician reviewing the report with you, should last no longer than 30 min.

VO2 Max Fitness Assessment

  1. Limit your activity before your visit (no exercise!)

  2. No caffeine or other stimulants prior to the test to ensure the most accurate measurement

  3. Wear (or bring) workout clothes and athletic shoes

  4. This test is done on an exercise bike (10-15 minutes at the most)

  5. Weight limit for the exercise bike is 330lbs

  6. You will be wearing a face mask to perform this test

  7. The test itself takes 10-12 min. The entire appointment, including our technician reviewing the report with you, should last no longer than 30 min.
